The Monarchs

We took a day trip to Pismo Beach to see the Monarch butterflies. They migrate there and land to mate and then fly down to Mexico to lay their eggs. We stopped at the dinosaur park to play first and then went down to the famous Splash cafe for a clam chowder lunch. We got to sit in the front window which was a treat for dad and a treat for the people standing in line playing peek-a-boo with the girls. Then it was off to see the butterflies. It is a very small area actually. Just one trail and a dozen trees where the butterflies come to stay. They are still pretty high up in the trees so it was hard for the girls to get a close look but they did see them and enjoyed the wonder of it. Their were so many in the clusters on the trees it was amazing. We were told that the butterflies don't start mating until mid December, so I guess the "show" will be better then when they are caring the females down from the trees to the ground and then back up again. We may have to go back to see the dance! As you can see the girls have their very own butterflies now and also got to see two real cocoons. After viewing the butterflies we went down to walk and play on the beach and then headed home for the night. It was a great family day.
